The thalamus consists of bulky gray matter nuclei located on either side of the third ventricle of the forebrain. It serves as a relay for sensory pathways. Dysfunction of the thalamus suggests that I am grappling with significant questions about my identity, self-perception, and may have a tendency to despair.
