Edema Psychosomatic and Holistic Meaning and Interpretation

Edema, also known as inflammation, refers to the accumulation of fluid in the spaces between cells. It occurs when there is a 10% increase in such fluid, leading to noticeable swelling and the impression left when pressure is applied with a finger. Edema can be triggered by venous or lymphatic obstructions.
Any retention of water or fluids is a reflection of emotional retention. When a person experiences edema, they are swelling as a protective mechanism. Edema can also occur when there is a conflict resolution taking place within the person. This situation represents an inner struggle between the ego and the heart—whether to maintain the conflict or resolve it. The area affected by edema, as well as the function of that body part, can provide insights into where the emotional retention occurred. For instance, swelling in a leg may suggest that the person is hesitating to progress toward a goal even after finding a solution.
If you suffer from edema, your body is signaling that you are withholding fluid due to a lack of confidence in your abilities and talents, thereby creating self-imposed barriers and limitations. The message you receive is to yield and take more risks by following your heart's guidance. Choose a solution rather than perpetuating the conflict you are experiencing.
Edema, characterized by swelling due to fluid retention, is common in areas like the ankles and feet but can occur in other joints and connective tissues as well. The presence of fluids in the body symbolizes emotions, which you may be suppressing or denying. It may also indicate reservations or feelings of limitation and restriction regarding your desires, leading to discouragement and dissatisfaction. You might be holding on to someone or something, whether from your past or present, as a lifeline, fearing that without it, you will be overwhelmed by grief, disappointment, or bitterness in the face of life's challenges. The body part affected by edema carries additional information. In the case of legs and feet, you may strongly desire a different path but feel emotionally trapped in your current direction, unable to assert yourself and break free. When edema forms following an injury or a part of your body attempts to heal, it is referred to as healing edema. In such cases, your body brings in fluid to reduce friction and aid in the recovery of the affected area. Edema serves as a signal to recognize and express bottled-up emotions, as well as to learn the art of letting go, enabling positive changes in your life.

I am learning to let go to allow me to move forward and make positive changes in my life.

Bright's disease, or chronic nephritis, is a severe inflammatory condition affecting the kidneys. Contrary to its name, it's not a disease but rather an ailment caused by underlying kidney conditions, resulting in parts of the kidneys being affected. This ailment is accompanied by edema, which is the abnormal retention of body tissues, as well as an inadequate elimination of urine. Typically, the kidneys degenerate or fail quickly, and it's more profound than general kidney diseases (sclerosis).

This condition often arises from intense frustration or disappointment, which can make the affected individual perceive their life or self as a complete failure. The kidneys are associated with fear, and this ailment reflects a fear of not being perfect or bright (intelligent). Healing and transformation require an opening of the heart to change one's attitude.
